Looks like a just released Best Practices white paper (or perhaps white .htm file) for SBS 2003. I think the one thing I took away from it is that on our installs I need to create a scheduled task to create a copy of Sharepoint Services so that you don't have to do a full recovery from backup media. Pretty cool idea.

Want your desktops to stay around a little longer? Then take a look at this little white paper from Microsoft on integrating Terminal Server. I've worked with Terminal Server for a long time now and actually enjoy using it immensely. For those of you out there using RWW in SBS 03 think connecting to your desktop without the desktop!

bCentral was a pretty good site for a lot of small businesses to use. Now Microsoft is moving to this Small Business Center. I think it's a step in the right direction. Although bCentral had great content, the marketing focus was particularly in the right place.

Yahoo! News - HP to announce small-business server for $499

Yahoo! News - HP to announce small-business server for $499

HP is really cutting into the SMB market now. That's an amazing pricepoint but could it be a false sense of security for some small businesses? I have a hard time recommending one of these servers as it's stripped down and may not give the business the true "up time" that it deserves with mirrored hard drives and the like. $499 can quickly go to $2999 in a hurry.

Google Local Search

Google Local Search

Ok this is pretty kool for the small business out there. Google has a new search engine for local markets. Here in Howell, MI I can type Pizza and Howell, MI and see all my fav spots! OK then I can get a mapquest map that shows all of them. Maybe it would work for your biz by typing in your market segment with a local area to market to.

OK see ya, I'm hungry now.

If you're using Windows XP and wanna become an expert make sure you get this RSS feed from the Expert community at Microsoft.

OK, so what RSS reader do I use? intraVnews. It's a great add-on that anyone who is getting into blogging and RSS feeds will love as it integrates nicely into Outlook. (Is it me or do I spend 80% of my time now with Outlook.) Only problem is that it doesn't support the ATOM feed specification (oddly enough which our feed is ATOM), but that will change with version 1.1 due out shortly.

In case you're not aware of it, Microsoft has a product that is called Software Update Services (SUS) that can automatically patch all of your network machines. It's currently at 1.0 sp1 and there is a major upgrade planned to house all updates to not only Windows but Office and other Microsoft products as well.
